Hotels near Newbridge House & Farm

Newbridge House & Farm is Ireland’s only intact Georgian mansion and estate. The house also boasts a fantastic farm on site for the kids to get up close and personal with some of the animals on the farmyard discovery trail. Join pigs, goats, ducks, cows, sheep and even horses on your next day out.

Originally built in 1747 for the Archbishop of Dublin, Charles Cobbe, the house has passed from generation to generation of the Cobbe family ever since. Cobbe originally begun purchasing lands around the Donabate region in 1736 and then commissioned renowned architect James Gibbs to design a plan for the rebuilding of Newbridge House.

The house was then passed throughout generations with various family members putting their own stamp on its style until 1985 when the family sold the demesne to Fingal County Council. An unusual agreement now exists where the Cobbe family remain in residence despite the influx of tourists to the property.

At Newbridge House there are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy. Visitors can learn about the mansion’s illustrious history by taking a guided tour and walk through one of Ireland’s best-preserved mansion interiors. The interior is full of many curiosities including many shells, fossils, 19th century Indian souvenirs and even some Captain Cook memorabilia.
